Counselling and therapy in Southwell, near Nottingham, Newark, Mansfield and Lincoln.
My name is Susan Dudley, welcome to my website. Please feel free to browse the following pages in order to find out more about the type of support that I offer.
I see my role as a counsellor as supporting and enabling each person to explore and work through issues and difficulties that cause distress and suffering. Clearly events themselves are not going to change, but talking things through with a suitably qualified counsellor, may help you to cope in different ways.

Whilst leading a full and busy life it is very easy for our sense of who we are as individuals to become lost. Time readily becomes filled with meeting the needs of others, and our own sense of meaning and what we want takes second place.
Add to this the many changes that can occur throughout an 'ordinary life', and it is easy to see how we can feel overwhelmed and experience psychological stress. Counselling can offer us the opportunity to understand and empower ourselves in a different way to fully engage with life.
Stress affects many of us in ways that we don't always recognise. It isn't unusual to use alcohol, food, over working or other displacement activities to block out those early signals of irritability, worrying, anxiety, depression or lack of sleep. Losing interest in things that would normally provide us with pleasure is also another common feature of stress or depression.
As a consequence of stress our relationship with ourself, other people and our view of the world can be adversely affected. We are often proud of our resilience or ability to cope, and quite rightly consider ourselves strong and psychologically healthy. It can be a shock for many people when just one problem too many, or a life changing event that we would usually take in our stride knocks us off balance.
For some people worries about unresolved problems and issues from the past are the cause of feeling unhappy and distressed. Gently talking things through with a qualified counsellor may help you to re-connect with positive feelings, inner wisdom and other rescources that are temporarily outside of your awareness.
